Gumdesign has worked to create a new concept of interior lighting for homes and offices. The new collection is called Stonato, a project designed for the Confini Spontanei event at Marmomacc 2012 and presented at VeronaFiere for the Abitare il tempo – 100% project, in collaboration with Martinelli Luce. The monochromatic and mono-material setting exalts even the tiniest contrast. As with all the work by the two designers, in this successful play of light Gumdesign are once again inviting us into their dream-world of colours, joy and experimentation, charged with creativity and with the benefit of their previous experiences. In this work in particular, with the grey sandstone left in its natural colour or masked by the intense shades of primary yellow and the LED lights, the designers are working with the concept of limitations, focussing on the relationship created by elements of contrast. The entire design is centred on the use of primary forms and broken lines, creating lamps and suspension elements in a range of heights and sizes. The sharp geometrical forms that are almost a reference to suprematism are enhanced by the materiality of the stone. This theme runs throughout the structure, together with its stand, encompassing the lighting equipment. In this play of delicacy and force, the primary elements of nature are placed into direct contact, creating moments of interplay between contrast and union. In this contrast of materials, a balance is achieved within the object itself; going beyond the simple task of lighting a space, and becoming an object of pure design.
