BOLOGNA WATER DESIGN
IL CASONE stone features in an incredible installation by the great Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in a setting arranged by the Palomba Serafini studio.
“Stonescape”: Bologna Water Design, a fringe event of the CERSAIE and sponsored by it, presents the Milan Fuorisalone format around the theme of water. In this context, IL CASONE is taking part in an evocative project, in collaboration with Agape and Mapei with the contribution of Davide Groppi for the Lighting Project, Open Project for the Structural Analysis and Frassinagodiciotto for the Project Management.
“Stone Escape” is the name of the spectacular installation designed by Kengo Kuma in collaboration with the three companies and will be staged inside one of the rooms of the former Ospedale dei Bastardini.

An exhibition and a video installation: this year, IL CASONE will be present at Marmomacc as part of two initiatives, dedicated not only to the appreciation and usage of stone, but also to a new way of its being perceived, both by mixing it with other materials and with the addition of scenographic effects and multimedia inputs.
“Spontaneous Borders /Naturally Reversible” is a project by Gumdesign which came from the idea of creating a direct, poetic contact between marble/stone and other materials. The borders are seen as invisible lines that represent “edges” ready to be dissolved in order to create new types of products and genuine synergies between companies. The companies involved in the project have worked together to develop new product lines to designs by Gumdesign. The synergy between IL CASONE and MARTINELLI LUCE gave rise to STONATO, a new collection of lamps in Pietra Forte Fiorentina with LED lights, which blend concrete, tactile materials with the lightness and intangibility of light. STONATO is a collection of interior lights; the stone frames a new type of product intended for use at home and in the office.
The exhibition “Spontaneous Borders, Naturally Reversible” will be accompanied by a publication illustrating the concepts behind the collections presented: the products will be explored through illustrations, epigraphs and critical texts by major figures in the design world.
"Homo Faber" is a video installation created to present a fresh perspective on the world of stone, a close look at the men who every day pour their sweat and enthusiasm into a noble trade.
Great attention has always been paid to the results of their mastery but, for once, we get to see their dust-caked faces and taut muscles in an attempt to better understand the creative values of top class craftsmanship.
Increasingly sophisticated machines have entered the workshops of those who work with marble but the ability and awareness in handling such a noble raw material can still not simply be acquired, it forms part of the knowledge of Italian heritage.
