Il Casone

September's appointements

IL CASONE stone features in an incredible installation by the great Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in a setting arranged by the Palomba Serafini studio.

An exhibition and a video installation: this year, IL CASONE will be present at Marmomacc as part of two initiatives, dedicated not only to the appreciation and usage of stone, but also to a new way of its being perceived, both by mixing it with other materials and with the addition of scenographic effects and multimedia inputs.

Spontaneous Borders /Naturally Reversible” is a project by Gumdesign which came from the idea of creating a direct, poetic contact between marble/stone and other materials. The borders are seen as invisible lines that represent “edges” ready to be dissolved in order to create new types of products and genuine synergies between companies. The companies involved in the project have worked together to develop new product lines to designs by Gumdesign. The synergy between IL CASONE and MARTINELLI LUCE gave rise to STONATO, a new collection of lamps in Pietra Forte Fiorentina with LED lights, which blend concrete, tactile materials with the lightness and intangibility of light. STONATO is a collection of interior lights; the stone frames a new type of product intended for use at home and in the office.
The exhibition “Spontaneous Borders, Naturally Reversible” will be accompanied by a publication illustrating the concepts behind the collections presented: the products will be explored through illustrations, epigraphs and critical texts by major figures in the design world.

"Homo Faber" is a video installation created to present a fresh perspective on the world of stone, a close look at the men who every day pour their sweat and enthusiasm into a noble trade.
Great attention has always been paid to the results of their mastery but, for once, we get to see their dust-caked faces and taut muscles in an attempt to better understand the creative values of top class craftsmanship.
Increasingly sophisticated machines have entered the workshops of those who work with marble but the ability and awareness in handling such a noble raw material can still not simply be acquired, it forms part of the knowledge of Italian heritage.

Il Casone at Chelsea Flower Show

London - 22 > 26 may

Spring is blooming, and now is the time to enjoy outdoor living, surrounded by greenery and an infinite range of colours.  The Chelsea Flower show, the world’s most famous horticultural show, is taking place this year from 22 to 26 May. IL CASONE is honoured to be partnering Corradi at this prestigious event, providing a small oasis that invites visitors to relax in the shade of its awning among the many gardens on show. UAINOT is in charge of furnishing the exhibition, and has chosen to cover the lawn with natural materials such as stone (Pietra Serena and Rosso Etrusco in various finishes), wood and greenery. These contrasting materials have been arranged in a tartan pattern reminiscent of a picnic rug, which the furniture can "blossom" out of.

Moving out! Fuori Salone 2012

17 > 22.04.2012

Moving Out!
We are taking the joy of living in carefully designed environments, the fruit of a studied decision where comfort and elegance are equally important, outside, that is, to gardens, squares, parks and onto our terraces. . This is the spirit behind the partnership between IL CASONE, METALCO (urban furniture and home lines), FRASSINAGODICIOTTO (design and creation of outdoor spaces) and PRATIC (awnings and pergolas for outdoor use).
The four companies are taking part in Fuori Salone 2012, an unprecedented exhibition that fuses design experience, excellent raw materials and innovative products, which have been designed to provide outdoor environments with the same level of comfort and attention to detail that characterise our home interiors.. Moving out! is therefore an invitation to get back to nature, but also and especially to reinvent the concept of the outdoor space, making it an integral part of our daily lives. The identity shared by the four companies is readily apparent in Moving out!: clean lines, attention to detail, careful selection of materials and essentially modern environments. The exhibition is set in a prestigious location: the former San Carpoforo church, at the heart of the Brera district - a reference of Milanese design and the area with the highest density of showrooms, galleries, venues and spaces dedicated to art and culture.
Moving out! is in fact a part of Arts and Craft, the event designed by architect Roberto Semprini, who intends to bring the work of man and his wellbeing to the fore, focusing on the quality tailoring of products.

The environments
Moving out! welcomes visitors as soon as they arrive in the square in front of the church, with an open-air oasis that invites you to relax, including sofas, benches, flower boxes and displays, illustrating the path that leads inside.
In the most spectacular part of the former San Carpoforo church (the transept and apse), 4 different environments have been created, each of which representing a different space where indoor-outdoor living can be enjoyed - squares, gardens, terraces, and studios with patio.

Technical sponsors: illuminazione Davide Groppi, Rubinetterie Gessi

Some IL CASONE products in the Moving Out! exhibition
- Pietra forte fiorentina®
Compactness, tenacity, beauty: these are the hallmarks of Pietra Forte Fiorentina. Its features, still visible in the ramparts of the Firenzuola fortress, are used today by IL CASONE, which, with the Cava del Vecchio, gives continuity to a timeless material. PIETRA FORTE FIORENTINA® is sandstone with a characteristic bluish-grey colour. This is type of a rock without cavities and microcracks, especially suited to architectural facades. Il Casone’s experience has led to a series of new surface processing techniques for PIETRA FORTE FIORENTINA® which, alongside more traditional finishes such as “polished”, “sandblasted” or “bush hammered”, offer architects a new range of surfaces with unique visual and tactile sensations.
- Surface
Valuable, sought after, the result of specific research into the new tactility and texture of stone materials: the stones in the SURFACES line unite the tones and texture of materials, through new processes designed for both indoor and outdoor environments. Silk, Damask. Bottonato, Cotton, Brocade, Hemp.
- DeckingStone
Designed for flooring terraces or garden borders, Decking Stone is the Pietra Extraforte paving slab, designed as a natural stone alternative to the classic wooden plank. The slabs, available in two finishes, "sandblasted" or “flamed”, are 4cm thick and measure 18x150cm or 18x300cm.
They can be laid traditionally, applying the necessary adhesive straight onto prefabricated screed with grouting, or by using height-adjustable supports for raised flooring.

Il Casone at Salone Satellite with Studio Lievito

Milano, Rho Fiera HALL 22-24 STAND C33

Over the years, Il Casone’s attention to the world of design has led it to forge various international partnerships, exploring and expounding upon new stone trends during its continuous dialogue with the world of design. This year, it has its eye on young, emerging artists, which marries perfectly with its participation at the Salone Satellite. The “Capocchia,” “Araldica” and “Squadra,” three design projects where stone is centre stage, are the result of its partnership with Studio Lievito in Florence.

Capocchia - Table
“Capocchia” is a Pietra Serena and corten steel table that speaks of history and tradition: the alternating rough and metal surface celebrates the patina of time. The inspiration came from that rusty old nail that a carpenter left in a beam.
The table is composed of the square head of the legs fitting into the flat tabletop. Materials: tabletop made from Il Casone Pietra Forte Fiorentina with an antique finish. The legs are made from
corten steel.

Araldica - Urban decor

The embossed seals and shields form a polyhedric texture that is perfect for adding a contemporary flair to the heraldry that covers the façade of the most important buildings in the squares of Europe, built on a human scale. Materials: 60 x 60 cm Il Casone Pietra Forte tiles, knobbly finish for the flat surface and sandblasted for the embossing.
Four different mix ‘n’ match modules.

Squadra - Table lamp

The distance between a tool and an object is short. The “flat square” feature used by the mason provides an excellent formal solution for an adjustable lamp. Squadra can actually provide indirect ambient light or, by turning on a 90° angle, direct, perpendicular light to illuminate a work space. Materials: Il Casone Pietra Serena, “silk" finish. Warm White, LED bar.
